Dear Customers,

A National Guard Unit from Fort Bragg that specializes in air traffic control in forward operating locations is setting up a temporary tower and Class Delta Airspace at Harnett Regional Jetport effective May 16-19 11am - 11pm EST and May 20th 11am - 3pm EST for training purposes. We are excited about this opportunity and hope our customers will support the efforts of our military men and women in this short training exercise. They would like to get as much training as possible by handling as many aircraft as possible during this exercise, so please don't be discouraged from flying in. During the times listed we will be a class D airport with all of the applicable rules, regulations, weather minimums, etc. We hope to possibly add the PAR approach capability for civilians but as of now it will be for Military use only. We will also have the full benefits of ground control, clearance delivery, and hand off to Fayetteville Approach. Be sure to check the NOTAMS for the latest updates, but I can assure you they are not out to bust anyone on regulations. We also fully anticipate not everyone will check NOTAMS nor will everyone realize that KHRJ is a temporary class D airport. We have made the Unicom frequency the tower frequency to minimize as much confusion as possible.

Don’t forget, we will have or 3rd Friday lunch on May 20th, and this will be a great opportunity for some to practice their controlled field operations.

Below is a draft of the NOTAMS we plan to publish. Please don't hesitate to call with any questions or concerns.

NOTAM 1- Class D service will be established via a temporary Control Tower effective 1500-0300 (1100-2300L) 16-19 May 2016 and 1500-1900 (1100-1500L) 20 May 2016. During operational hours, arriving aircraft contact "Harnett Tower" on VHF 122.7 / UHF 234.500 within 5NM of KHRJ. Prior to taxi contact Harnett Ground Control VHF 123.575 / UHF 242.700.

NOTAM 2- Military aircraft requesting PAR approaches to RWY 23 contact "Harnett Arrival" on VHF 141.625 / UHF 230.200 outside 10NM of KHRJ. PAR approach is restricted to military aircraft only.

NOTAM 3- Anticipate increased activity and the presence of military equipment and ground personnel for a training event on the airfield at Harnett Regional Jetport 16-20 May 2016. Equipment and personnel will be located southeast of Runway 5/23
